Contemplation Spaces
The word “contemplation” has its roots in the Latin contemplari, from con (together) and templum (temple): observing in a sacred space. Contemplation is deep, reverent observation that fosters tranquillity and inner reflection. With this in mind, the project enhances a riverside forest in La Hiruela, creating a place for contemplation and disconnection that draws on the light of a forest clearing and the serenity of its surroundings.

The programme is scattered through the forest: dining hall, common kitchen, reception, family cabin, five small cabins, youth cabin, sauna and tea room.

Living off the grid. The microhome integrates a Canadian well, a solar chimney, a mass stove and photovoltaics built into the louvres, reducing dependence on conventional energy and greenhouse gas emissions with clean thermal and electrical energy all year round.
